Lens Implant Choices

Advances in both cataract surgery and intraocular lenses (IOLs) have allowed more people to experience full restoration of their vision without the need for corrective lenses after surgery.

For patients with cataracts, there several options to try to eliminate the need for glasses after surgery. Until fairly recently, nearly everyone who had cataract surgery was fitted with a standard monofocal lens (IOL). Monofocal lenses allow you see objects in the distance but require that you wear glasses to see objects that are closer. Recent advancements in lens technology have made it possible to not only treat the cataract but also reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses as well with a multifocal and corneal astigmatism correcting lenses (Toric IOL).
